The Ottawa Browncoats are pleased to announce that the fourth annual "Can’t Stop the Serenity " event will take place on June 27th at the Mayfair Theatre.

"Can’t Stop the Serenity " is a worldwide charity event started in 2006 by fans of Joss Whedon’s TV series Firefly. The goal of the event is simple: to raise money for Equality Now, Whedon’s favourite charity. Once a year, Firefly fans (Browncoats) around the world get together to watch their favourite film and raise money for a good cause. Last year alone there were screenings in 56 cities and “Can’t Stop the Serenity” events raised over $100,000 for Equality Now.

This year, we are pleased to be supporting not only Equality Now, but also a local charity, iSisters Technology Mentoring Inc.

What is Equality Now?

Equality Now was founded in 1992 to work for the protection and promotion of the human rights of women around the world. Working with national human rights organizations and individual activists, Equality Now documents violence and discrimination against women and mobilizes international action to support their efforts to stop these human rights abuses.

What is iSisters Technology Mentoring Inc.?

iSisters Technology Mentoring Inc. is a Canadian charitable organization that connects women in need with technology through mentoring. iSisters increases economic earning potential and independence for women in poverty in Ottawa who are unemployed, have limited education and depend on government services for basic needs. iSisters' programs enhance employability skill development, provide a critical and effective stepping stone to improved quality of life and initiate long term and high impact positive change for marginalized women.
